Right now, your website is dropping little bits of code on people’s browsers. Those bits, called cookies, can contain personally identifiable information about your visitors. And they can get you in a whole lot of trouble.
On January 1, 2023, the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) takes effect. This law, a continuation of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), puts additional controls on the way user information is collected and used. As a website owner, you may have to update your privacy policies and provide robust opt-out options, among other things.
And if you don’t there could be huge penalties.
With CCPA violations, the California attorney general’s office is seeking civil penalties of $2,500 – $7,500 for each violation. The story is the same for CPRA violations.
So, we strongly recommend you get and stay compliant.
Doing that isn’t necessarily an easy thing to do, so if you’re unsure whether your site currently complies with these laws, get in touch.
We’re happy to help.
