In what is chalking up to be one of my favorite viral campaigns, the Australian tourism board put out a job application for a “Caretaker of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef” aka “The Best Job in the World.”
Applications closed yesterday and 34,000 applicants from 200 countries submitted applications. The main job description is “explore and report back.” The hired employee gets to play in and around the Great Barrier Reef and keep a video blog and photo gallery for six months. Oh, did I mention the job pays AUD$150,000 (approximately $100,000 USD)?
Applications required a video element and hundreds were posted via YouTube. The media coverage has been significant and folks are blogging about it like crazy. Sounds like a smart $100,000 investment to me.
